Between Mason City and Clear Lake in Iowa, there is a small railroad museum that is slowly building up to becoming a must see for railroad fans. It's the Iowa Trolley Park. Right now, the park has a humble collection, including a PCC car, a Soo Line caboose, a hand car, a speeder, a 127 year old tender still wearing its original paint, and a Plymouth. The future attraction is the project that has been going on for over 10 years now: America's NEXT new steam engine. Scheduled to debut in 2012 is a replica of Virginia & Truckee 2-6-0 #1, the "Lyon". The tender is nearing completion, and the boiler (built at the Strasburg Railroad) was trucked to Mason City a few months ago. Thanks to donations at the "Levithan" display at TrainFestival 2009, the engine will slowly become complete in the next few years. Check out www.iowatrolleypark.org for more details. Until then, the main feature is the chance to run the park's Plymouth. Watch as your's truly takes the Plymouth out for a spin around the loop of track. Enjoy!
