Car Donation - The Benefits and Why You Should Do It

Why on earth would someone want to donate a car? You might ask this question, but there are many reasons, including tax benefits, being charitable or saving time. Perhaps your vehicle isn't worth much to you, but having it sold for charity is worth a lot to them.

The IRS will give a tax refund of $500 or the sale value of the car if you decide to donate it. You fill out a car donation form and you can allocate your charity from a list of eligible organizations that you want the sale to benefit. You will receive a receipt that qualifies you for the IRS tax rebate, so there is a guaranteed $500 for your car, possibly more. There will be no hassles, no running ads in the newspaper and having people come over to test drive the vehicle and no worries about trying to barter the price or having to pay for last minute repairs.

Most charities will choose to sell the donated vehicle, in which case you can deduct the amount they receive for it. If they decide to use the vehicle for a purpose within the charity, you will be able to claim the fair and average market value at the time you donated the car. They will take into account the current condition of the car and how much you could get if you sold it. That means if there is damage or if it needs repairs, it will be deducted from the value for your car donation tax rebate.

If the vehicle sells for or is worth more than five thousand dollars, you need to fill out an 8283 and 1040 form, plus have an official written valuation, and your form needs to be authorized at the highest levels. If the value or sale price is between $500 and $5000, you would fill in the 8283 form and the standard 1040 that is for all vehicle donations, but you do not need the written appraisal. For cars worth under $500 or sold for that amount you would fill in a 1040 only, along with a written acknowledgment from the charity as to the sale or the use of the vehicle.

Donating a car to a charity car yard can be a lot easier. Simply choosing the charity and leaving the car with them to sell saves you possible hassle. If they need to do any repairs, it will be deducted from you tax rebate and added to the sale price. This means you can't profit from sending in a broke down vehicle in bad need of repair expecting to deduct the full sale value once it has been fixed.

This can be a great option if you are short on cash and want to sell your car but need a couple of repairs. Be upfront with the charity car dealer and let them know the problems. Tell them you are happy for them to deduct the costs of fixing the problems from your tax rebate, and they will appreciate your honesty. Charity car dealers will often have all the paperwork you need to apply for your car donation tax benefit on site.

It's not all about the tax benefits though. Donating your car is a rewarding and charitable thing to do. The money raised, sometimes thousands, is donated to your charity of choice, whether directly from you or through a charity car dealership. That is a lot of meals or clothes or money towards research or whatever the charity of your choice contributes to. Not all charities do fall under the qualification for the tax rebate, but most do and the lists are available from the IRS website or the charity dealerships.

Next time you are considering selling your vehicle, think about a charity donation. If you do donate your car, there are definite benefits for the organization of your choosing and yourself at tax time. You may even decide to do it close to the end of the financial year so it doesn't take too long for you to see the refund! Alternatively the money can come off your tax debt! It is like having an easy sale for your car but just receiving the money for it a while later.

But instead of grinding the figures and crunching the numbers, why not make the decision from your heart? You will get some reimbursement, less hassle, and be doing a very good deed for those in need. Be spontaneous and giving, and next time you are changing over vehicle, donate your used car to an eligible charity of your choice.

Car Donations & Tax Deductions

If you're looking for a great way to reduce your taxes, there are many things that you can do. Though many things in our lives are taxed there are a few ways to take out a bit of that tax money that you have to pay. There are charities that you can give to that are tax deductible. The great thing about tax deductible charities is that you are giving back and providing something for someone who is really in need while at the same time you are reducing the amount of taxes that you have to pay.

One of the easiest and most helpful charities to give to is to give your car to a car donation center. The difference between giving your old car to a car donation center instead of sending it to the dump is a phone call. It couldn't be easier to find the number of your local car donation center in the phone book or on the internet. Once you find the donation center all you have to do is call them and set up a date to drive it there and leave it at the center.

The car donation center will take your old car and find a family or person that is truly in need of a car so they can give it to that person or family. Your old car will go to them so they will have easier access to get to their jobs, to school, or to their children's activities so they can live an easier life. One of the great things about car donation is that because it is a charity it is usually tax deductible. Not only are you giving back when you donate your car but you are taking out a chunk of the tax money that you have to pay to the government.

Does Cleaning Your Car With a Pressure Washer Damage Your Paintwork?

It's fairly common to be told that you shouldn't clean your car with a pressure washer as it will damage the paintwork. The theory is that the pressurized water drives the dirt particles into and along the surface of your paintwork causing scratches.

The alternative would be to use a hosepipe but even this still requires some pressure to effectively remove dirt & contaminants. A hosepipe does not have the level of pressure that a machine does but it does have a greater volume and weight of water. So if a pressure washer damaged your paintwork then surely using a semi pressurized hosepipe would also be capable of inflicting similar damage?

The truth is that the only way you could damage the paintwork of your car with a pressure washer would be if you were to use a massively powerful machine and hold it too close to the surface which would result in the paintwork actually being stripped off the vehicle.

When using a pressure washer to clean a car the water does not actually drive the dirt particles into the surface of the paintwork, it lifts and encapsulates them by getting in behind them, therefore effectively creating a protective layer of water between the dirt particles and the paintwork.

Add to this the fact that if you sufficiently pre foam your car with a suitable product before rinsing (which you should do) the dirt particles will already have been effectively loosened and lifted from the surface by the foam before you even come to rinse it down with a pressure washer.

It is completely safe to use a pressure washer to clean your car as long as the machine you are using is suitable and not excessively powerful, and that you ensure you do not hold the jet of water too close to the paintwork, or drive water into sensitive areas such as window seals or corroded bodywork.

It is other areas of the car cleaning process that can cause damage to your paintwork and it is here where more attention should be paid.

Donate Cars to Single Mothers

The process of car donation involves buying unused/unwanted cars from those who want to get rid of it and further donating them to the needy i.e. giving it to the charity organizations. These organizations can then use these donations to raise funds to further help the ones under them.

There are companies who facilitate these automobile donations that the process is smooth and doesn't trouble people at either side. They do try their best to fund the charities and at the same time helping the ones that really want to get rid of their unused vehicle. The charity organizations themselves sell the cars donated to them at auctions and raise funds while there are companies who do this much also for the charity. They auction it at the highest possible prices and later give the money in charity. By both the ways, the final aim is to assist the development programs for all the needs of unfortunate ones.

NGOs also accept car donations which can be utilized in many areas. The auto parts are sold for monetary help to the needy or for charitable activities like rides for people under the care of NGO, cars for kids, and works of the organization.

Another aspect of using car donations is to help the single mothers who really want to possess a car for their daily routines. A vehicle helps single mothers in a great way as they can handle the transportation of their kids and their own transport to work and home. A car donation helps them in possessing a vehicle that will make their routines easier. This gives them the much needed independence to carry on their activities.

Check the genuineness of the organization that will facilitate the process of car donation. The credibility of NGO is important which will also let the tax deduction come in your hand. Make sure that the organization doesn't turn out to be bogus and complicate the things for you. Something that is just right in front of you like churches or known NGOs. You can simply meet them and donate your car directly to them.

An important step is to sign over the title of the respective organization. And once the donation is done, don't forget to collect your IRS tax receipt which will entitle you for the tax deduction up to $500. A receipt of acknowledgment of donation is also given by the NGO or charity organization. Once you donate your car to a nonprofit charity, you will need to sign over the title to the organization.
